《エジプト逃避の休息》——クロード・ロランが1640年頃のローマで描いた一枚の絵。このワールドは、その絵の中の風景である。
クロードが描いた港も森も、そのままの場所はどこにも実在しない、画面の中で組み上げられた風景だった。ここにある理想郷も、画面の外には存在しない。それは欠陥ではなく、理想郷というものの正体である。画面の中とは、現実に存在しないものが姿を現すことのできる、唯一の場所なのである。
額縁の中の楽園を歩きながら、額縁の外を思い出すこと。この場所は、その往復のための装置である。
Rest on the Flight into Egypt — a painting made by Claude Lorrain in Rome around 1640. This world is the landscape inside that picture.
The harbours and forests Claude painted existed nowhere as such — they were landscapes assembled within the picture. The ideal land here, likewise, does not exist outside the screen. This is not a defect; it is what an ideal land is. The inside of the picture is the only place where things that do not exist in reality can appear.
To walk through the paradise inside the frame, while remembering what lies outside it — this place is an apparatus for that passage back and forth.
